It seemed that the spirit of U2 passed through everyone who was at this show, including the amazing folks at Buzz Click Photography and the local Michigan U2 Tribute band, Zooropa, who were kind enough to give AllU2 their exclusive pictures from the show along with a write up.

On Sunday night, June 26, the biggest rock band in the world brought the massive rock show to Southeast Michigan. The stadium-sized spectacle of U2's "360 Tour" may very well be the biggest show on Earth. It's certainly the largest stage with its 167-foot-high, 29,000-square-foot, four-legged superstructure known as The Claw, which could be seen for miles, peeking out from atop the stadium walls. The stage that was too big to fit in any Detroit venue, proved to be too big for even East Lansing as several concrete walls had to be knocked out to accommodate the stage once it arrived last week.

It was a show more than three years in the making after the original 2010 date was scrapped as Bono recovered from back surgery. And the band did not disappoint those who waited for them: U2 started the show with four songs from their hit album "Achtung Baby," which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. What followed was a 23-sing greatest hits concert, from their first album in 1980 to their most recent "No Line On The Horizon."

Bono played to the crowd early with a “Go green, go white!” chant for the Michigan State University crowd and added that the Edge wants to buy a small cabin on Lake Michigan. Carrying through the night with “With Or Without You,” "Elevation," “One” and “Vertigo,” drummer Larry Mullen, guitarist The Edge and bass player Adam Clayton created a wall of sound that shook the rafters of Spartan stadium while Bono led the crowd in many sing-alongs. For over two hours, the ever-impressive 54-ton video screen expanded to the floor of the stage, lighting the stadium with a spectrum of colors.

The 360 degree open stage gave every fan in the 65,000-plus Spartan Stadium crowd a great view. All four members of the band walked the ramps and catwalks to give this immense show a feel of intimacy as fans scrambled for their cell phones to capture the up-close-and-personal moments. This 360° tour passed the Rolling Stones weeks ago to become the most successful tour in music history. With a month of dates left on this two year tour, U2 is on its way to an expected $700 million total gross.

Bono paid tribute to the late Clarence Clemons twice during the night and dedicated a song to U.S. Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, who is recovering from brain injuries due to a gun attack. Giffords husband - and space shuttle astronaut - Mark Kelly appeared on the video screens to recite a verse of U2's "Beautiful Day," which he recorded in outer space.

Also in attendance at the concert was 82 year old George Scofes. Back in 1981, Scofes booked the up-and-coming Irish band to play Dooley's Pub in East Lansing (now Harper's Restaurant and Brewpub). Bono gave Dooley's a shout-out from the stage. Thirty years later, U2 proved it still knows how to rock East Lansing.

It took 14 years, but tonight, U2 played Winnipeg and I had the pleasure of sharing the show with U2ters across the world. It was a great show, although it ended sooner than normal. Bono & The Edge on American Idol: Rise Above

Last night, during the American Idol finale, Bono and The Edge performed with Reeve Carney, who stars in Spiderman: Turn Off The Dark. Below, is a video of the performance, which featured a spiderman who flew through the air and into the crowd below.

U2: Salt Lake City Setlist & Videos

One year ago, U2's crew was 80% finished with assembling U2's stage, affectionately dubbed by fans as "The Claw". Due to Bono's back injury and subsequent emergency surgery, they had to stop and pack it all back up. Salt Lake City and the rest of the States would have to wait to see U2.

Things have come full circle.

U2's crew, whom Larry admitted not knowing the names of at the Billboard Awards, erected The Claw one more time in Salt Lake City, this time, plowing right through as they passed the 80% mark. This show was on. This show was happening. So, it rose, and reached into the Utah sky surrounded by the beautiful scenery of the city. U2360 had arrived.

Denver: May 21st, 2011. Setlist & Videos

It took about a year, but Bono was back, pun intended, in the states, to take the mic and lead U2 through an amazing set at Invesco Field in Denver. "You were two years younger when you bought those tickets" he told the crowd of 70,000+. "I'm not only back...I'm better! Bono 2.0!" Bono thanked the doctors who performed the emergency surgery last year, and how fitting that the first night of the rescheduled shows in the United States was also the same night one year ago that he came out of the surgery.

The show was visually stunning, as you will see from the video setlist below. Some noteable new elements were the Aung San Suu Kyi message to U2 fans, replacing Desmond Tutu's video message before ONE. Demond was moved to before Magnificent, where he gave a new speech to launch a remixed version of "Magnificent". Also, more suits of lights showed up! Not only did Bono wear his during the encore, but Edge and Adam got into it with Bono during "C

Fulfilling many U2ters' hopes of a changed setlist, U2 surprised the lucky few who were able to see them rehearse in Sao Paulo yesterday. Ever since the band began playing the recorded version of Fez, with snippets of Zooropa mixed in, we had hoped they would play one of those two songs in full.

Last night, U2 rehearsed Zooropa, in full, three times.

It was the first of three shows in Argentina, and it began like no other U2360 show. The first clue was the return of David Bowie's "Space Oddity". It rang out into the Argentina night until a very familiar guitar riff announced the show was starting. U2 opened with Achtung Baby's "Even Better Than The Real Thing". It warned of a night of surprise and change, and even further, it made U2ters wonder "What will happen on the night two and three?"

For a song that has never been on a studio album and been played live less than a dozen times, Mercy is rapidly becoming a 360 favourite.

U2 frontman Bono marked the 30th anniversary of John Lennon's death on Wednesday, December 8 by singing The Beatles songs throughout the band's gig in Australia. Lennon was gunned down outside his New York apartment on December 8, 1980 and fans flocked to the Big Apple to mark the poignant anniversary, while tributes were paid all across the world.

The Irish rockers were in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday and the singer proved he had not forgotten the landmark date by launching into an anthem by the Fab Four during their show at the Suncorp Stadium. After finishing a rendition of U2's "Beautiful Day", Bono stirred the crowd by performing a segment from The Beatles' "In My Life".

He went on to sing a number of the band's hits, including "Rain", "Dear Prudence", and "All You Need Is Love", as well as Ben E. King's "Stand by Me", which was covered by Lennon in the 1970s. The band also played "Pride (In the Name of Love)", their homage to Martin Luther King, Jr., andBono changed the lyrics to honor Lennon, singing, "1980, December 8. A shot rings out in a New York sky..."

God’s Phone Number

After discussing rock band U2’s rather stirring interpretation of Psalm 40 last week, we asked this question:

What secret Bible message did U2 include on the cover of their album All That You Can’t Leave Behind (and what does it mean)?

Here’s the answer: On that album cover, the band was photographed standing in the Charles de Gaulle International Airport in Paris. Above the band in the photograph is a departure gate sign. It originally read “F21-36.” At the last minute, U2’s lead singer Bono had the album artist airbrush it to read “J33-3.”

Why? “It was done like a piece of graffiti,” said Bono. “It’s known as God’s telephone number.” J33-3 refers to Jeremiah 33:3, which reads: “Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”

*December 2010 UPDATE: The song "Unknown Caller" is about a man at the end of his rope in a hotel room with no cell reception, yet he gets a text from an unknown caller, and it's those texts that get him out of there alive. The line "3:33 when the numbers fell off the clockface" has new meaning when taken in the context what U2 did for the cover of ATYCLB. Perhaps 3:33 is a reference to J33-3, and Jeremiah 33:3?

Live Nation Global Touring and Time for Fun have today confirmed that U2 will return to Brazil. The U2 360° Tour will visit Sao Paulo’s Estadio Morumbi on April 9th, 2011 and special guests on the night will be Muse.

The Irish rockers explain the making of Broadway's massive superhero musical

NEW YORK (AP) -- Creating a megamusical is no easy feat, even in the hands of U2 megastars Bono and The Edge.

"Easier than we could ever have imagined. Harder than we ever thought," says Bono, resting on a Times Square hotel bed near where "Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark" is readying for its first preview.

"I mean, easier in the sense that the music came to us effortlessly. Dreaming up the show, the scale of it, the flying sequence, the pop art opera that it is — that was all pure joy," he adds. "What we didn't realize was how difficult it is to stage this stuff, both technically and financially."

It's been a long, strange trip for the rock duo's first attempt at a Broadway show. But the end is in sight: Years of delays and behind-the-scenes shake-ups will end Sunday when the public finally gets to see the reported $60 million musical for the first time. The first preview is naturally sold out.

"Is there jeopardy?" asks Bono, U2's main songwriter and lead singer. "Yes. Because it's technically very difficult. It has never been achieved before — the kind of scale of what we're looking for. There may be very good reasons. We're going to find out. The expense of it? A lot of it was the delays."

He and The Edge, the band's lead guitarist, signed on back in 2002 to write the score in partnership with co-writer and director Julie Taymor, the Tony Award-winning creator of the Broadway hit "The Lion King." The death of a key producer slowed the production for nearly two years while raising money, and the sheer size of the show — enormous sets, a 41-member cast and aerial stunts — needed time to perfect.

"If the rabbit comes out of the hat, we will be, I think, rewarded. If the rabbit comes out of the leg of the trousers, we could be figures of fun for a few days. Or worse. Maybe looking for a job," he says.

The musical has 40 pieces of music in total, including 18 songs. Only one tune — the glam rocker "A Boy Falls From the Sky" — is widely known, but Bono and The Edge say the show's music runs the gamut from garage rock ("Dancing Off the Walls") to choral arrangements. Only four or five are rock songs and the musicians want to dispel the notion that they've created a rock opera similar to The Who's "Tommy."

"It's much more varied than anything we would ever achieve or set out to do with U2," says The Edge. Adds Bono: "There's big, otherworldly melodies. There's dance numbers. There's experimental, avant-garde, jagged metal pieces."

The music for the show will be performed live from an 18-member orchestra in two rooms backstage. Two musicians from the band Carney will be on stage alongside their lead singer, Reeve Carney, who plays Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Bono says only two songs had their start before the project began and the rest were custom created for the show. Sometimes, he and The Edge would come up with an idea for a song, and other times the scene came first.

"We would always defer to the needs of the story and characters," says The Edge. "It was a fun project and it was in that spirit of fun and just letting your imagination go off that a lot of this stuff came together."

They hope the experience will unlock the songwriting and expand their vocabulary — or at least shake things up — when they rejoin bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. in U2.

"As much as we've used our experiences with U2 to inform the way that we approach writing for this, we think that the opposite will happen, and when we come back to U2 Land, it'll be with a certain knowledge and sense of new thoughts and new ideas," The Edge says.

Both men are happy with the final product, layering praise on Taymor, whom Bono calls a "master of her form, a great storyteller and she believes in magic." He also calls Eiko Ishioka, who did the costumes, and George Tsypin, the set-maker, as "two card-carrying geniuses."

Bono has been inside the sprawling Foxwoods Theatre on 42nd Street and says that despite the delays, the mood is upbeat, from the top creative people to the stagehands. New paint and carpet have been placed in the theater's lobbies in anticipation of final dress rehearsals later this week.

"I think even though it looks like there's a lot of ill will against us, I think it'll turn around," he says. "If it's just spectacle, we will have failed. But if you can be moved, and if you believe these characters, and if Spider-Man outlives his fabulism and you really buy into the myth, it's a great American story."

R&B superstar AKON has set his sights on a duet with U2 - joking he'll go as far as kidnapping frontman BONO to ensure the rocker sings on his next album.

The Smack That hitmaker is renowned for teaming up with top talent and has previously worked with Lady Gaga, Whitney Houston and Quincy Jones. His duet with the late Michael Jackson, Hold My Hand, has been announced as the first single from the tragic Thriller superstar's upcoming posthumous album.

But Akon still has a list of dream collaborators - and Irish rockers U2 are his top priority.

I hesitated on posting this, because details are vague, but I will tell you what my source told me and let you listen and decide if you think this is real or not.

Careful to not reveal who gave me this, let's just say someone I know claims to have been in an NYC studio as a part of Eric Benet's tour, and says The Edge was in the studio next to them. He also says he held up a mic to the door and recorded this clip. There is talking over it, and I wish there wasn't, lol. They clearly don't recognize the riff being played as "The Fly". I do not recognize the riff played in the beginning behind the guys talking, though. And is someone singing as well at the end, or is that something else?

Could this really be The Edge messing around in the studio next door? Maybe tuning his guitar or warming up? I can't say for sure if I believe it, but I have asked for more audio (and more details) from my source, to see what comes from it.

There is something about this song that resonates within me, and after seeing U2ter response in social media, it seems to resonate with many others too. After hearing this song the first time, I knew I had heard one of U2's most beautiful songs. Perhaps this is what was lacking in NLOTH (with the exception of Unknown Caller). The connection that comes from U2 when U2 does what they do best. This song has U2 soul in it.

In a just a few listens, I feel this could be one of U2's most beautiful songs. And, for the band to allow it to evolve before it's captured in one form on an album, is amazing. Usually, it's the other way around and the songs evolve after the album is released and they are played live. This one will come to the recording sessions already "seasoned", which could make what is captured for the album just beautiful.

U2: Helsinki Night 2: 8/21/10

At least once during every tour, there is one show where die-hard U2 fans get what they want: a changed setlist. Tonight, at least for now, was that show, in Helsinki. It began during U2's rehearsals, in which songs, like Bad, No Line On The Horizon (acoustic), I Will Follow, and Pride were run through, and easily overheard by fans outside the stadium. U2ters spread the news quickly through social media and excitement was built, even though there was no guarantee that the songs would make the setlist immediately. U2 has been known to practice songs many nights in advance of their appearance during the live show.

Then the show lived up to U2ter's expectations. Not only did U2 play I Will Follow (for the first time ever on U2360), No Line On The Horizon (acoustic), and Pride, they also surprised people with "Every Breaking Wave", the song Bono had once called the first single from the "Songs of Ascent" album. To make room for the new songs, "The Unforgettable Fire", "Until The End of The World" and (surprisingly) "Sunday Bloody Sunday" were not played.

In my opinion, as a die-hard U2ter, I can live with those losses for one night, so I can enjoy a changed setlist, which of course, brings a whole new vibe to the show.

There has been so much tak about U2's new music, sparked by the new songs they are playing on the tour this year. So much has been said, and so much has been rumored. Today I found this on Rolling Stone. This is a snippet of the much larger article, which you can find by clicking here.

The Next Album – or Albums

The tour is now less about the last album and more about your continuing history – the songs you played in Turin from deep in your catalog; the new material. That in-the-round spectacle has become more fluid, allowing you to do something more than amaze.

The idea was to make the crowd the spectacle – for us to be in the middle of this community and be able to play a new song if we want. People actually see it happening, because there is nothing else on stage. You can't hide.

So now is the throwdown: "Oh, really? Let's see you play some new songs. How about three?" Sure, people can say, ""Oh, I didn't think that was any good." But if I was a U2 fan, that's what I would want. I would want to watch a new song develop. We may discover it's not what we thought it was, and it may never see the light of day. But we've got a lot more songs to play.

How many?

We have Songs of Ascent, which is the meditative work that was meant to complement No Line on the Horizon. We've got a rock album. We also have a club-sounding album. And then we have the Spider-Man [musical] stuff.

Across those four, there are 25-30 songs. Now we have to decide how we go about releasing them? Do we release them in their groups? Chris Martin [of Coldplay] called me and said, "I hear you've got all these albums going. I have a great idea. Why not just pick the best songs from all of them and put them out now?" And I'm like, "Hmm . . . " [Strokes his chin].

Because we don't think like that. It's a bit mad. In that sense, we're not as 21st Century as we think we are, because we'd be putting out more new songs online, involving our audience in the choice – if we were really modern. We're just sitting here arguing about them, except no one else knows about them. The people on the beach here probably know them, because we keep playing them, like we did last night [smiles].

How much do you see the show changing when you come back to North America next summer, to play the rescheduled shows?

That's going to be great. We'll maybe have a new album – I think we probably will. So it's kind of wonderful. Those people are going to have tickets to a whole new show with new songs. It's going to be very exciting next year.

U2: Seville Show rescheduled

Due to the scheduled general strike in Spain, on September 29th, U2 promoters have today announced that the date for the U2 concert in Seville, currently set for that same day will be postponed to September 30th.

Although the specifics of the strike have not been announced, in the past the strike has affected security services, public transportation, cleaning as well as medical and hospital services which are all integral to the running of the concert. As a result, the promoters cannot guarantee U2 fans will have the best possible experience at the Seville concert. Therefore the Seville show scheduled for September 29 will now take place on THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 30th.

All tickets purchased for the September 29th performance will be honoured at the September 30th show. Fans wishing to purchase tickets for the new show may do so at Ticketmaster network.

The U2 360° Tour will arrive in Spain on September 26th at the Anoeta Stadium in San Sebastian and September 30th in Seville's Olympic Stadium - with special guest Interpol in both cities.

There's still time to get tickets through the usual outlets of Ticketmaster network, on 902 15 00 25 and online at www.ticketmaster.es. Fans unable to attend the rescheduled performance must return their tickets to point of purchase before the 10th September.

I've chosen these particular videos, because they are not perfect, and you can hear the crowd sing next to you, even bump you as the camera shakes. I chose them, because they are real and capture a moment where the camera person and those around were filled with the soul of U2.

U2’s ‘Club-Sounding’ Album

Found this on MTV's newsroom site. Surely, this will cause casual U2 fans much distress, because POP was not received well by the general public. But, for those of us, who know the band, and can understand the intent behind POP and have discovered the deep lyrics and emotion sewn into the album's fabric, this might be a very interesting piece of news. And honestly, this does not surprise me, given the reception fans are giving the Crazy Tonight remix, and the arrival of Discotheque snippets in it.

It's always great to hear a clean version of a U2 show, but there is something, in my opinion, that is special about seeing videos like the ones below. These are taken from ONE individual perspective of the opening of the show, from all over the stadium. You may hear people scream, or sing off key and too loud, or ruin your view, or even bump into your camera, but this is REAL. This is a U2 EXPERIENCE at its most pure...and raw...and real.

Each video brings its own energy and vibe, yet somehow, the emotions are all the same... the result of thousands of U2 fans proving to the world, that, though different, we are all ONE.

If I Chose U2's Setlist...

After tonight's amazing open in Italy, fans all over the world are posting, tweeting and sharing their pictures, videos and thoughts on the night.

Being that I work in a creative position, I am always in my head, trying to think of how I would do things. Here is my ideas for what U2 could realistically try on this tour.

The idea is to keep U2 fans feeling they are getting something unique and special, while keeping the core of the show still in harmony with where U2's head are at. I explain my thinking below this setlist, and then offer a revised setlist to show you what some of those changes would look like:

^For Magnificent, the lights stay on through Space Oddity and Stingray Guitar, then shut off quick as the song morphs into the first guitar strum of Magnificent, and then come on like normal at each subsequent one.

^^You could flip these two songs and surprise people a little.

^^^depending on what song plays before it, you could bring back the intro keyboards before Beautiful Day.

*Song 6 could be the slot for surprising fans. U2 could easily play a handful of songs after ISHFWILF. I'd suggest these as alternates: All I Want Is You, Stay, Stuck In A Moment, Party Girl, Desire, In A Little While, Electrical Storm, maybe an acoustic Wild Horses? I do have to say, though, Staring at The Sun does offer some video-space themes possibilities, by name alone.

**After Elevation, song 10 could also offer some options for variety in future shows. Being that October is song 11 in my setlist, U2 has an opportunity to play an older song to create a quick vibe from the old days. In addition to I Will Follow, I'd suggest U2 could play these songs as alternates: Out of Control, Gloria, or 11 O'clock Tick Tock.

****You could also remove song 10 and move October up to that spot, and do the old U2 staple of October into New Year's Day, then into Until The End of The World.

+ If you pull New Year's Day up to play after October, you could swap any of those songs to play after Sunday Bloody Sunday, cuz to keep U2 fans thinking this is a special show, you need to break up the usual flow here. I Will Follow, Out of Control, or even Drowning Man could work here.

++During the Crazy Remix, you keep the Discotheque snippet, and also add a quick homage to Lemon.

+++of course, you can switch Hold Me Thrill Me Kiss Me Kill Me, with Ultraviolet.

At the close, for NLOTH, I say when 40 ends and the crowd is singing, you bring up the Claw's lights, NOT the stadium lights, and fake people out for a moment, as if the show is over due to the brighter lights being on. Then Bono can say something sarcastic or cheesy, and they start NLOTH. I say they run a montage of all the vids used during the show, as a recap, like the song being the title track on the album. Wraps it all up nicely. Maybe turn the cameras on the crowd, too, and mix that in as well. The montage gets faster and spins at the end, until the last guitar note is strum, then it grays out into the album cover as the guitar note fades...

Ok, after typing what I just did, I am thinking I like some of these options better than my original. lol, This is what an alternate setlist could look like with my favorite of the above-mentioned changes:

Exactly one year ago today, U2 performed live in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. It's amazing how fast the time has gone, and as of this posting, we are only four days away from liftoff once again. The spaceship affectionately called "The Claw" has been quietly resting, calm and at peace. I am excited to say that another surprise happened in Turin today, as U2 rehearsed at Stadio Olimpico.

According to sources at U2gigs, U2Place and U2italia, it appears that U2 rehearsed two new songs, one being slow. They also rehearsed "Trying To Throw Your Arms Around The World" from Achtung Baby.

In the late afternoon, there was a bass and drum soundcheck of Tryin' To Throw Your Arms Around The World, and a short while later, some guitar riffs could be heard. We emphasise that the following guitar riffs were most likely played by guitar tech Dallas Schoo, not The Edge himself:

Once evening fell, the band themselves showed up to rehearse. Like yesterday, it was indeed all four members of U2. They began the evening with a short session of the following songs:

Soon / Beautiful Day

It is unknown whether Soon was live or, like last year, a recording. The latter seems more likely. There is, in addition to this, a rumour that the band are considering opening the set with Beautiful Day. If they do so, it would be the first time U2 have opened a full tour concert with a song not from the latest album since Bullet The Blue Sky opened the last night of Lovetown, 10 January 1990 (or, if you choose to count it, Sunday Bloody Sunday opened the public rehearsal in Hershey on 7 August 1992).

After a break, the band then returned to the stage at 10pm and rehearsed what looks like at least the skeleton of an actual concert setlist, rather than just a random assortment of songs. After the intro music of Space Oddity by David Bowie, the band played:
