Bono, the singer of U2, has had emergency back surgery, according to a statement on the band's website.
The U2 360 tour launch, previously scheduled for June 3 in Salt Lake City, has been postponed, according to a news release from concert promoter Live Nation. U2 fans with tickets to the concert at Rice-Eccles Stadium should hold on to their tickets until updated show information is provided. Additional tour information will be forthcoming.
The operation was needed for an injury sustained during tour preparation training, the band's statement said.
"He was admitted to a specialist neurosurgery unit in a Munich hospital," the statement said.
Bono will spend the next few days there, before returning home to recuperate.
