U2 Pays Tribute To John Lennon

 frontman  marked the 30th anniversary of 's death on Wednesday, December 8 by singing  songs throughout the band's gig in Australia. Lennon was gunned down outside his New York apartment on December 8, 1980 and fans flocked to the Big Apple to mark the poignant anniversary, while tributes were paid all across the world.

The Irish rockers were in Brisbane, Australia on Wednesday and the singer proved he had not forgotten the landmark date by launching into an anthem by the Fab Four during their show at the Suncorp Stadium. After finishing a rendition of U2's "Beautiful Day", Bono stirred the crowd by performing a segment from The Beatles' "In My Life".

He went on to sing a number of the band's hits, including "Rain", "Dear Prudence", and "All You Need Is Love", as well as Ben E. King's "Stand by Me", which was covered by Lennon in the 1970s. The band also played "Pride (In the Name of Love)", their homage to Martin Luther King, Jr., andBono changed the lyrics to honor Lennon, singing, "1980, December 8. A shot rings out in a New York sky..."
