Alan Cumming drops out of Bono and The Edge's Spiderman musical

This morning another spectacular defection from Bono and The Edge's troubled Broadway musical 'Spiderman - Turn Off The Dark' occurred.

Scottish actor Alan Cumming has traded in his role as the Green Goblin for a recurring role on the hit TV show 'The Good Wife.'

The 45-year-old Tony-winning actor dropped out of the musical because of conflicts with his new gig on CBS' legal drama. Cumming was recently promoted to a series regular.

Cumming follow's Evan Rachel Wood's departure from the troubled Broadway production, which has struggled with financing for months.

'The Spider-Man team could not resolve conflicts with my dates on The Good Wife,' Cumming wrote on his website.

He expressed his disappointment 'that I will not have the chance to collaborate with Bono and The Edge, and to work with Julie Taymor (the award winning director of 'The Lion King' on Broadway) on the stage.'

The show features music from U2's Bono and The Edge under Taymor's direction. The show is slated to open later this year.
